Are you looking for a good snack to serve when watching ball games or movies with friends? Our daughter introduced me to Archer Farms' Caramel Cashew Trail Mix a few months ago, which seems to be sold only at Target stores. I love it! The first time I tried it I decided the only thing that would have made it better was salt on the nuts, but it was soooo good I could overlook that one flaw. Since we live about 80 miles from the nearest Target store it was difficult to replenish my supply. The mix costs $9 or $10 at Target for a 37 oz. jar. I was hoping to order it online, but the only place I could find it was at Amazon where it is listed for $19.20! That obviously was way too pricey--I could drive all the way to Target for the extra $10 and buy several jars!
Yesterday when I was in Walmart I decided to see if I could find similar ingredients to those in the mix and attempt to create my own. I found some and came home and mixed them together. I think the result is as good as, or possibly a little better than the original because the nuts are salted. Here is the recipe if you want to try it. Another benefit is that it costs somewhat less than the Target mix.
Combine: 10 oz. pkg. Milk Duds
3.4 oz pkg. M & M's
3/4 lb. coctail peanuts (without the skin)
1/2 lb. cashews
Obviously, you can vary the amounts of each ingredient to satisfy your taste, but this seems to be pretty much equivalent to the amount of each in the original. (I still have one unopened jar with which to compare the results.)
This makes a great accompaniment to popcorn.
