I love reading the Bible in chronological order which I've mentioned in earlier posts. It seems to make so much more sense! I'm reading the New Testament now and seem to be stuck on Day 42, John 14-17. I have read it for several days now. Jesus has so much to say in these four chapters that I could read them every day for a year and still not grasp it all. There is one idea I've been meditating on in particular though.
In John 14:12-14 Jesus says, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."
Have you ever compared these verses to John 3:16 which is used by so many to lead people to Chirst? 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
It seems that if you believe John 3:16 you have to also believe John 14:12, but why is this not preached? Why do we not know this or act on it? Have we not been taught the full gospel? It doesn't seem to be preached in many churches or wouldn't we be seeing many more signs, wonders and miracles? I think it's time to repent. One of the definitions of repent is "to change one's mind". We must change our mind about who we are and what it means to live the gospel.
I'm sure I'm going to be meditating on this for quite some time.
