Happy Thanksgiving!
May you have a blessed day filled with memories and reminders of all you have for which to be thankful! It's a wonderful world created by a good God. He knows what is best for His creation and he commands us to give thanks in all things.
Have you ever read the Passion Translation by Brian Simmons? I find it very helpful and inspiring when I'm trying to understand a passage. Of course, I don't use it for memorization but it certainly sheds new light on passages I have read for years in the more traditional translations. Today I was reading in Galatians. When I came to Gal. 5:22-23 describing the fruits of the Spirit I was especially encouraged and enlightened.
Here is the New King James translation:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
And here is the Passion Translation:
But the fruit of the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all of its various expressions.
This love is revealed through:
Joy that overflows,
Peace that subdues,
Patience that endures,
Kindness on display,
A life full of virtue,
Faith that prevails,
Gentleness of heart, and
Strength of spirit.
Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.
Isn't that beautiful?
