Do you wear a mask? I try very hard not to, because I'm sure if you have read my blog for awhile you know already I don't believe they are effective. There are several stores around our area now that have a person stationed by the door to make sure you are wearing one. I have often carried mine in and then put it away after getting past the door. Recently my friend, Juliette, sent a wonderful suggestion from her husband. He says if you are stopped at the door for not wearing a mask, or if someone else questions you just smile and say "I am practicing peaceful civil disobedience, exercising my constitutional right." Do not offer to leave. Put the decision back on the person that challenges you.
I thought this was an excellent suggestion! My friend, Donna, and I tried it at TJMaxx last week. When Donna announced we were participating in peaceful civil disobedience which is our constitutional right, the lady at the door said, "OK." We LOVED it!!
You might want to try it. Shopping was much more fun since we were consciously making a statement. Before I often tried to avoid the eyes of the mask wearers. Now I can hold my head high and look them right in the eye. Amazing what freedom that one statement has given me. I don't know why I didn't think of it, but I'm glad Mat did and passed it on to others. It's time to stand up for our rights and stop cowering in fear.
I was telling friends about this idea last night. They suggested I might want to have badges printed. Then others could read them and we wouldn't have to repeat the phrase so often--just point to the badge. Sounds like a great idea to me!
